Private houseboat suite in AmsterdamYour Boatsuite in the bow
The Boatsuite is a private suite for two in the bow of houseboat Kadans, on KNSM Island in Amsterdam: an 18 m² bedroom with a raised bed under a skylight, a 4 m² bathroom with walk-in shower, your own front door and a private deck on the water. Compact, like a cabin on a cruise ship, and cheapest when you book direct.

How big is the Boatsuite?
A Boatsuite, not a hotel room. Think of a cabin on a cruise ship: compact, cleverly laid out and made for two. Here is exactly what to expect, so there are no surprises.

- A raised bed in the bowThe bed sits on a platform a few steps up, right under the skylight. Above the bed you can sit up comfortably, but not stand.
- Light and fresh airDaylight from the skylight, and portholes you can open on warm days.
- StairsAn outdoor staircase leads down to your front door, and a few steps lead up to the bed. Not ideal if stairs are hard for you.
- Space for luggageBig suitcases fit under the bed, so the floor stays free.
- Truly privateWe share only the outdoor staircase, and it sits between your suite and our home: you will not hear us. Your deck on the bow is yours alone; we have our own terrace at the stern. In summer you may see us outside, that is all.

Where is the suite on the ship?
The Boatsuite fills the bow. We live in the rest of Kadans. The only thing we share is the staircase from the quay. At the bottom, the Boatsuite’s front door is on the right and ours is on the left. Want to see it first? Browse every photo of the suite and the ship.
What guests say
“My husband swam every day, and the little boat suite was beautiful and clean. It was actually a bit larger than I expected, about the size of a hotel room.”
“We had an amazing stay here! It was clean, cozy, and beautifully set up, with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. Waking up on the water was such a unique experience.”
Why stay here and not in the centre?
The centre is wonderful to visit. Sleeping there is another story. On KNSM Island you are out of the crowds, and it feels like a real holiday: quiet nights, water all around, and the city still close by.
“A unique experience to live on a houseboat, with the charming owners as neighbours. Impeccably clean, an excellent bed and a peaceful neighbourhood after a long day exploring Amsterdam.”
| A hotel in the centre | The Boatsuite on KNSM Island | |
|---|---|---|
| Night noise | Bars, party crowds and late-night street cleaning below your window | Silence on the water. You hear the harbour, not the city |
| Sirens | Ambulances and police racing through busy streets, day and night | A quiet residential island, with no through traffic |
| Crowds | Tourist crowds and selfie sticks outside your front door | Locals, swimmers and wide quays along the water |
| Holiday feeling | A room on a busy street, like any other city trip | Your own deck on the water, and a morning swim from the boat |
| Getting around | Everything on foot | Central Station in 14 minutes by bike, tram 1 to the Rijksmuseum |
